On Friday, February 2nd, 2024, The NRA Foundation presented four Pennsylvania groups with grant awards at the Opening Ceremony of the Great American Outdoor Show.
The grants were awarded to:
- East Pennsboro Township Police Department received $9,000 for their Taser 7 CEW Transition Continuation project.
- PA Scholastic Clay Target Program Eastern PA received $10,000 for the 2024 State and National registrations for youth SCTP teams from Eastern PA. It is estimated that 500 students will benefit from the grant!
- Hunters Sharing the Harvest received $5,000 for Eastern Pennsylvania venison donations to feed the hungry. The funds will be used for meat processing. There are no fees charged to the food banks, centers, soup kitchens or shelters that gladly accept the donated venison.
- Dauphin County Sheriff’s Office received $25,000 in grant awards. $15,000 will be going towards their K-9 Program, while $10,000 was awarded for various training supplies. The Dauphin County Sheriff’s K-9 program provides support for events at Great American Outdoor Show by conducting explosive detection “sweeps” before events. The K-9 unit is funded solely by donations. The Department now has 37 deputies supporting the County Court system and the approximately 280,000 citizens of Dauphin County to protect and serve!
Many people know how invested The NRA Foundation is in our shooting sports communities. This is all made possible through grassroots fundraising efforts by Friends of NRA. Friends of NRA hosts events across the nation led by Field Representatives and hundreds of local volunteer committees. Their goal is to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports. Last year alone, Friends of NRA held over 600 events.
Since its inception in 1992, Friends of NRA has held over 25,500 events, reached over 4.7 million attendees and raised more than $1.1 billion gross to support The NRA Foundation’s 501(c)(3) charitable mission.
Each year, The NRA Foundation allocates half of all net event proceeds for use by the state in which it was raised. Friends of NRA volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees who then make recommendations of how the local grant funding is dispersed. Often, these grants go to police training programs, school training and shooting programs such as JROTC and clay target teams, shooting range improvements, and other organizations that defend and foster the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans. The other half is used by The NRA Foundation to fund projects with a national scope. These monies sustain vital programs such as Youth and Women’s Programs, Range Services, Eddie Eagle, Education and Training, Law Enforcement, Competitive Shooting, Hunter Safety and Services, and the National Firearms Museum.
